From Individual Projects to a Joint Research Programme
More than 60 researchers gathered at the first Annual Conference. It provided an opportunity to share initial findings and to discuss how the projects can collaborate to address the overarching societal issues.
The 14 research projects of NRP 84 are at different stages of their work. While some projects are already well underway and have made considerable progress, 3 newly launched projects joined the conference for the first time. The event thus provided a good opportunity to discuss the status of all projects and to strengthen connections within the programme.
Beyond project boundaries
Over the two days, the researchers first worked within the framework of NRP 84’s three modules. Each project presented its most important findings and reflected on how these relate to the programme’s objectives. The researchers then discussed in various groups what contribution their research could make at the programme level.
The discussions revealed that many different aspects of the programme’s societal issues are already being addressed by the 14 projects. At the same time, gaps and intersections became apparent. One message became particularly clear: to answer the overarching questions of NRP 84, collaboration across projects, topics and disciplines will be crucial.
Social networking
The exchanges continued over lunch and into the evening. During the conference dinner, Prof. Christine Clavien from the University of Geneva delivered a thought-provoking speech on how people make decisions. Her presentation drew attention, among other things, to the importance of the non-rational dimensions of decision-making, thus offering participants further food for thought between the main course and dessert.
The next NRP 84 programme conference is scheduled for August 24 and 25, 2027.
